This September, several Robettes and mentors participated in a STEM night planned and hosted by Catherine Link, one of the Robettes team captains. The STEM night was held at St. Joseph’s School in West St. Paul and was designed to spark students’ interest in STEM at a young age. The night involved a keynote presentation by biology professor, a question & answer session with a panel of STEM experts including Robettes mentor Jon Stratis, and a variety of fun, STEM-related activities. The event was staffed entirely by volunteers, including a number of Robettes members, mentors, and an alum, who hosted and explained the science behind many different STEM stations, such as making a paper clip float with surface tension, inflating a balloon with gas produced by yeast, and making raisins “dance” with carbonation in pop.
