2018-2019: Destination: Deep Space

This year our team once again won the Engineering Inspiration award, given to teams who “celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.” This award qualified us for the World Championships! Again this year we built a practice robot and a competition robot. Our robot had a four-bar arm mechanism with a clamping end that allowed our robot to place hatch panels on all three levels of the rocket. She also could climb up to the second level of the hab for extra points. We named our robot Aisha, after Aisha Bowe, who worked with NASA and created her own company, STEM Board. We also won the Safety Award during the North Star tournament due to the tireless work of our Safety Captain, Maisie M. The Safety Award “celebrates the team that progresses beyond safety fundamentals by using innovative ways to eliminate or protect against hazards.”
